1968. FAO Assignment, Republic of Korea
SOIL FERTILITY PROJECT. Republic of Korea, December 1968.
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) as executing agency, is carrying out this project in co-operation with the Korean Government in order to determine and improve fertility of the nation's soils. The project will have a duration of 6,5 years and is being financed by over $1 million from the UNDP Special Fund and more than $2 million from the Korean Government. Work underway includes: gathering and analysing data on response of crops to fertilizers and to Korean agricultural practices; carrying out experiments in farmers' fields; carrying out more complex experiments on the interactions among various factors affecting crop production; analysing soil samples from all experimental sites; offering advisory and extension services; training local personnel; and advising the Government on various fertilizer problems.
Soil pH is determined by soil chemist, Miss T.H. Park at the Institute of Plant Environment, Suwon.
