GCP/ZIM/017/EC - Agricultural Input Assistance to Vulnerable Smallholder Farmers in Zimbabwe and the Co-ordination and Monitoring of Agricultural Emergency Interventions. The overall goal of the project is to improve the livelihoods of vulnerable communal households and improve access to food. As such, the project will impact on approximately 10 percent of the country?s communal farmers, who will be able to access inputs to plant 0.5 ha of cereals. With the timely provision of inputs to farmers by October and appropriate extension (focusing on permanent weeding), the production per family is expected to yield between 300 to 600 kg of cereal grain, representing five to ten months of consumption for a family of six (10 kg per person per month). Regarding the contribution to national requirements, the 48 000 to 96 000 tonnes produced will represent 3 to 6 percent of national requirements (1.5 million tonnes for human cereal needs), assuming the total population is still 11.8 million people.
