29 April 2024, Achada Fazenda, Santa Cruz, Cabo Verde - Willy Gonçalves, 29 years old, a young Cape Verdean agro-pastoralist, observe and listen carefully to the explanation by Yanhua Zeng, 47, Head of the Chinese project team, and salt industry soil fertilizer and water management expert, during a training in fertilization techniques and disease and pest control in agricultural crops at "Ze Nena" farm.
Willy is a young farmer, learning the skills as he looks after Nena’s (71) farm. He has received training on soil management and pest control offered by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), as part of a project under the FAO-China South-South Cooperation (SSC) Programme.
Through the FAO-China South-South Cooperation programme (SSC), a group of Chinese experts pass on their knowledge and expertise to Cabo-Verdean farmers and livestock producers to fight pests, manage soil and animal production, and other useful techniques in adapting the effects of climate change.
