COOK ISLANDS 2022. Rarotonga
13 August 2014, Rarotonga, Cook Islands - Marthalina Koroa Murare organises the shelf of imported fruit at the CITC supermarket. The Cook Islands are 82% food import dependent. Whilst local growers provide markets and supermarkets with various fruits and vegetables, consistency of supply is such a problem that the nation actually imports much of what can be grown locally. The fruit being stacked on this shelf is all imported. Apples and pears are not grown on the Cook islands and reflect rapidly westernising tastes among youngsters who spend much of their time in New Zealand or Australia.
