Background Information Surveys, research, experimental fishing and training are being carried out by the executing agency, FAO. Studies into the biology and the evaluation of pelagic fish such as the Sardinella and bonga (Ethmalosa fimbriata) species, and the comparison of yields with different methods of fishing are included. Various activities of the Project are carried out on a research vessel, the "Thue Junior", and in the Project laboratory at Abidjan. Commencing in 1967, the four-year Project is financed by a UNDP(SF) allocation of $1.273,300, with a Government contribution in kind of just under $1 million.
