Background Information The desperate plight of the thousands of refugees who fled from their homes during the June 1967 hostilities in the Near East continues to worsen as refugees still arrive in their hundreds each
day at the already overflowing camps. The World Food Programme sent emergency supplies in July 1967 100,000 people in Jordan, 100,000 in Syria and 35,000 in the UAR at a total cost to the Programme of $1,268,000. On 1 December 1967 a further allocation of food for the sane number of people in each country was authorized by the Director General of FAO at an estimated total cost of $1,264,000. WFP supplies are also being sent to various development projects in the region where refugees may earn food supplies in part payment of wages.
