FIJI 1963. Training centre in community development
1963. Living conditions in the South Pacific vary from poor to comparative well-being. Now, the demands of modern living have made themselves felt in the islands and created new problems. To help people deal with these problems, and to improve nutrition, health and community life in general, a training centre in community development has been established at suva, Fiji.
Here, women of the islands are learning home-making, hygiene and various aspects of community improvement. The project, a part of the Freedom-from-Hunger Campaign of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), is being financed by Australia and the South Pacific Commission and operated with the collaboration of FAO and the Government of Fiji.
Trainees show how home-made kitchen furniture can be utilized for storage.
