Getting Back to Work After Hurricane Ivan
20 June 2006, Mirabeau - A local farmer and FAO project beneficiary planting a lettuce crop.
FAO Project - TCP/GRN/3003: Emergency assistance to farmers and fisherfolk affected by Hurricane Ivan. The main objective of the project is to assist the Government of Grenada in its programme of post disaster relief addressing the needs of the most vulnerable groups of the populations affected by the Hurricane Ivan to resume household gardening for family consumption and fishery production activities. The immediate objectives of the project are:
 * To provide 2 500 small-scale fishermen with fishery material, light equipment and tools to repair boats and restart fishing activities;
 * To provide 2 000 small-scale farming households, with seeds and tools needed for the resumption of household gardening and small-scale agricultural production.
Assistance will be limited to farmers with less than five acres of land, who derive most of their income from farming and to fishermen that have been severely affected by the hurricane.
