INDIA 1966. Rinderpest
India, November 1966. The visiting veterinarians hear of the pioneer work on rinderpest done at the laboratories. Rinderpest, a deadly cattle disease, is on the decline in Asia and the Far East following intensive vaccination campaigns. Only Afghanistan, India, Laos and Vietnam are still significantly affected by this disease, which until a few years ago was still wiping out millions of cattle. At the mountain laboratories of the Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Mukteswar, Uttar Pradesh, veterinarians from 15 Asian countries recently underwent an intensive course, financed by the Australian FFHC Committee, which should ensure immediate diagnosis of any fresh outbreaks.
