INDIA 1966. Rinderpest
India, November 1966. Veterinarians spent three weeks in the remote laboratories studying the symptoms of rinderpest. Rinderpest, a deadly cattle disease, is on the decline in Asia and the Far East following intensive vaccination campaigns. Only Afghanistan, India, Laos and Vietnam are still significantly affected by this disease, which until a few years ago was still wiping out millions of cattle. At the mountain laboratories of the Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Mukteswar, Uttar Pradesh, veterinarians from 15 Asian countries recently underwent an intensive course, financed by the Australian FFHC Committee, which should ensure immediate diagnosis of any fresh outbreaks.
