Background Information
The 21st Session of the FAO Conference opened at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) on Saturday 7 November. The Conference, the supreme governing body of FAO, consists of delegates from member nations. It meets biennially to review and approve the Director-General's Programme of Work and Budget for the coming biennium to discuss major policy issues on world food and agriculture; to consider applications for membership in the Organization from new member nations, and to deal with other relevant matters. The 21st Session of the Conference closed on 26 November.
