KENYA, 2025. Cattle at livestock market
26 March 2025, Maji Moto, Narok South, Kenya. Cows in the holding yard of the Kerembe Private Slaughterhouse. Oftentimes, due to limited animal health interventions, pastoralists are forced to sell their livestock when they are sickly. This yard holds the livestock that are needing veterinary care before they can be slaughtered. Through the PLACE programme, the One Health approach to animal slaughter is emphasized with a focus on improving and optimizing slaughter practices to minimize disease transmission, promote animal welfare, and ensure food safety.
