MADAGASCAR 2024. Sustainable Wildlife Management (SWM) Programme activities
13 June 2024. Ambatofotsy, Madagascar. Local hunters setting up a bushpig trap. The SWM Programme in Madagascar promotes the sustainable use of non-protected wildlife species and an increase in farmed fish and poultry to reduce wild meat consumption. This will help improve food security while conserving endemic species like lemurs.

Background Information
The SWM Programme, implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Center for International Forestry Research and World Agroforestry (CIFOR-ICRAF), the French Agricultural Centre for International Development (CIRAD) and the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), works to restore the balance between food security and wildlife conservation, especially consequential to Madagascar’s unique habitats.
