MAURITANIA 2025 - DROMEDARY CAMELS B-ROLL
As part of the celebrations for the United Nations–proclaimed International Year of Camelids 2024, led by FAO, a field mission was conducted in Mauritania in January 2025. Engagements with local communities and stakeholders highlighted the vital role dromedary camels play in ensuring food security, enhancing nutrition, and supporting the livelihoods of agropastoral populations. These discussions underscored the collaborative efforts between FAO and the Mauritanian government and revealed the significant untapped potential of the camelid sector. With increased investment and targeted support, camelids could become powerful drivers of improved resilience and sustainable rural development.
