Background Information
As northern Mozambique continues to grapple with the combined impacts of conflict, displacement, and climate shocks, FAO is stepping up efforts to support vulnerable communities. In Cabo Delgado, where nearly 541 400 people remain displaced and 576 280 returnees strive to rebuild their lives, many families have lost access to their agricultural lands, assets, and food sources.
To address these urgent needs, FAO prioritized the distribution of emergency agricultural kits, poultry assets, and vaccination kits in the districts hardest hit by Cyclone Chido and conflict. Thanks to this initiative, 11 564 households received agricultural kits containing maize and sesame seeds and essential farming tools, enabling them to resume crop cultivation and improve household food security. The distributions reached families in Mecufi (3 855 households), ChiĂşre (1 772 households), Balama (486 households), MocĂmboa da Praia (4 163 households), and Palma (1 288 households).
In addition, 103 households received vaccination kits aimed at protecting poultry from disease and preventing further livestock losses, vital for food and income generation. These kits were delivered in Balama, ChiĂşre, MocĂmboa da Praia, and Palma, and included equipment and materials for Newcastle Disease control, awareness raising, and farmer education.
