NIGERIA 1962. Teak samplings
March 1962 - the Freedom-from-Hunger Campaign was launched in Rome by the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) on 1 July 1960. This picture is from a project sponsored by the Norvegian Church Group at Abakalili on Cross River in Eastern Nigeria. It shows teak samplings planted less than three years ago. Conditions for such timber trees as teak and mahogany are excellent in this region.

Background Information
The Director-General has characterized the Campaign, from its beginning, as a threefold operation: in the fields of education and information, of research, and of action. Much interest has been focused recently on action projects. They are prominent in the Campaign plans of a number of FFHC National Committees.
