114 April 2019 ,Sehnaya,Rural Damascus, Syrian Arab Republic ? School children are collecting green spinach leaves from their school garden established by FAO in the Syrian Arab Republic with the support of the Governmant of Japan. FAO is raising awareness on ?Nutrition Sensitive Agriculture? concepts to more than 3,000 children aged between 7 to 12 years old within 20 schools located in Rural Damascus and Homs Governorates, by the establishment of school gardens for multiple purposes (education, awareness raising, training, production, horticultural skills in agriculture, cooking demonstrations, food processing). This falls under a joint UN programme entitled Education for All with a generous support by the Government of Japan, the programme will also train 340 teachers on school gardening practices, concepts on healthy diets and best agriculture practices.
