Background Information
Improvement in Fish Smoking and Supply of Fishing Materials to Lakes in Akagera Area: TFD-97/RWA/006. The aim of this TeleFood project was to relaunch the artisanal fisheries activities of three fishermen's groups at Lakes Nasho and Rwampanga in Kibungo Prefecture in the eastern part of Rwanda.
Following the civil war in Rwanda, most of the fishermen lost all their essential equipment. The Project provided fishing nets for the fishermen, built an artisanal smoking oven, and provided appropriate technical training. Each group also received wooden ice boxes to keep the fish fresh for travel to markets in Kigali.
