Project ID Ms. Beth Bechdol, Deputy Director-General at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, and Ms. Joyce Msuya, Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator, are visiting Somalila to highlight the work of FAO and UN OCHA. Although the number of people who need assistance in Somalia has decreased in 2024 by 16 percent when compared to the previous year, the humanitarian crisis in Somalia remains alarming. Key concerns include climate shocks, food insecurity, widespread malnutrition, displacement, disease outbreaks, and protection. It is therefore critical to address the underlying drivers of the humanitarian crisis in Somalia, especially climate change.
