Stepping up the fight against rabies infection
27 September 2013, Rome-- There are an estimated 60 thousand human deaths per year due to rabies infection. Many of these deaths are children who fall victim to this deadly disease. But these deaths are entirely preventable. On 28 September - World Rabies Day - the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) and the World Health Organization (WHO) will issue a joint statement, uniting them in their goal to eliminate human rabies and control the disease in animals.
