11 December 2024, Bangkok, Thailand - Jong-Jin Kim, Assistant Director-General and FAO Regional Representative for Asia and the Pacific, (R) FAO Representatives (FAORs) and senior management attended an open-house celebrating the visit of the FAO Director-General QU Dongyu (L) to the FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific on the last night of the Director-Generals visit.

FAO Director-General QU Dongyu is in Thailand on a five-day visit. Early today he visited Thale Noi, Pattalung Province, he visited Non-hunting Area and the Ramsar Site of Kuan Ki Sian. Thale Noi Wetland is one of the 58 GIAHS systems in Asia and the Pacific region, it is home to more than 3 500 individuals. Selected on 04 November 2022, it is the first GIHAS site in Thailand. Its selection was based on its quality as a diversified farming system marked by longstanding interaction between humans and buffaloes. The selection criteria for GIAHS sites include global importance that is beneficial to the communities , agro-biodiversity, supports food and livelihood security, knowledge systems, social values and culture, as well as outstanding landscapes.
