9 December 2024. Bangkok, Thailand. FAO Director-General QU Dongyu (R) meeting with H.E. Kubota Osamu, Deputy Assistant Minister at Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) (L) during a bilateral meeting at the International Soil and Water Forum 2024.

FAO Director-General QU Dongyu is in Thailand on a five-day visit. During which, he visited the National Hydro-informatics Data Center (NHC) at the HII headquarters on Kasetsart University Campus and the Ban Saladin community to observe good practices in community water resource management in rice-fish pond systems and solar-power propellor aerators.

The DG attended the first International Soil and Water Forum, which opened today to outline concrete measures aimed at enhancing global efforts to manage water scarcity and reverse soil degradation—both critical for global food security and environmental health. The Forum is co-organized by FAO and Thailand’s Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives.
