01 November 2013, KIROKA, TANZANIA - Labourer Omari Rashidi Omari makes a new energy efficient stove at a home in Kiroka. Due to the huge demand for the new stoves, which require less firewood, additional workers have had to be trained. A FAO project to strengthen capacity of farms for climate change is underway in Kiroka, Tanzania. "It's something we may call climate-smart agriculture," says mission project co-ordinator Prof. Henry Mahoo, who teaches at the Sokoine University of Agriculture. The project aims to improve land and water management, promote climate resilient agriculture and encourage dialogue and understanding regarding climate change adaptation practices.
