UKRAINE 2024. Trout farm benefits from FAO / EU support
29 Match 2024. Lvivska oblast, Ukraine. The farm "Holuba Nyva" located near Lviv, began in 2007 by raising trout fry despite limited capital. Over time, it expanded to include commercial trout, Arctic char, and sturgeon, but the COVID-19 pandemic and the war significantly disrupted operations. With support from an FAO and EU grant, the farm installed a 54 kW solar power station, reducing energy costs and ensuring reliable power during outages. Additionally, they received 3 800 tonnes of fish feed, which eased financial pressures and enabled them to maintain and expand production.
