08 December 2010, Dakar - Workers in a horticultural micro-garden training center and nursery giving visiting FAO officials a tour of the grounds. The FAO Micro-Gardens Project in Dakar was initiated in 1999 and was extended in 2001 to other regional capitals of Senegal through the FAO Special Programme for Food Security (SPFS) initiative to further promote horticultural production in unused and unusual spaces such as empty yards, rooftops and vacant lots.
FAO Project: GDCP/SEN/002/ITA - Consolidation of micro-gardens to improve food security in the municipality of Dakar - Phase II. The overall objective is to consolidate past experience with this ongoing project while also further promoting development of micro-garden activities and contribute to fighting poverty and food insecurity.
