Zimbabwe, 2014. Emergency drought mitigation programme
4 August 2014, Dangarendove, Chirumhanzi District, Zimbabwe - Mrs Jesca Chaya, a crop voucher beneficiary farmer in Zvishavane District, digs holes for application of manure in her field where she practices conservation agriculture. As a result of the voucher system rolled out by FAO through its implementing partners, beneficiary women farmers, who are mostly vulnerable and emerging rural farming households such as Kushinga women farmers group at Dangarendove in Chirumhanzi District, enjoyed improved access to agricultural inputs, got trained, received adequate extension support, and managed to attain improved farming and marketing knowledge, which resulted in them employing good agricultural practices. Beneficiary farmers managed to have enhanced livelihoods, improved nutrition as well as access to quality crop inputs for their household food production and/or income generation.
