Background Information The Veterinary Services Directorate (VSD) of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), successfully concluded a vaccination campaign to protect sheep and goats from Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) in three regions of Northern Ghana under the European Union Food Security Response Project in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. The vaccination campaign forms parts efforts to address food and nutrition insecurity in Northern Ghana, the campaign aimed to strengthen livestock health and protect rural livelihoods against the deadly disease.

A total of 72 veterinary staff and national service personnel were trained to carry out farmer education, community mobilization, and vaccination across 72 communities in Central Gonja, North Gonja, and North East Gonja districts (Savannah Region); Bongo and Kassena Nankana West (Upper East Region); and Bunkpurugu-Nakpanduri district (North East Region).
