25 July 2025, Antananarivo, Madagascar. FAO Director-General QU Dongyu visiting Madagascar Royal Tilapia cage fish farming, field visit, Ivato with Madagascar Minister for Fisheries and Blue Economy Mr Paubert Tsimanaoraty and Mrs Nambinina Randriamanantsoa, Secretary General of Royal Tilapia.
This site, located approximately 30 minutes from Antananarivo, will highlight a successful cage fish farming initiative originaly launched by FAO and later scaled up by the Ministry of Agriculture to encourage private sector involvement. Now led by Royal Tilapia, a private company built on the foundations of the FAO model, the site exemplifies strong public private collaboration.
Royal Tilapia supports 36 associations through a cooperative model by supplying organic feed and fingerlings. The associations grow the fish and sell them back to the company
