Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) assesses the work for Zero Hunger by FAO and Director-General José Graziano da Silva
A high-profile review of FAO’s work in the fight against hunger and malnutrition since 2012, and an assessment of the main challenges for this agenda in the decade ahead, will take place at FAO’s Sheikh Zayed Centre on Friday 26 July.
The event, moderated by 2018 World Food Prize Laureates Lawrence Haddad and David Nabarro, will recognize the work and commitment of FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva toward the Zero Hunger goal.
It will also explore the best ways to tackle hunger and malnutrition in all its forms, with a special focus on the dietary challenges posed by the rise of overweight and obesity simultaneous with the persistence of the high prevalence of undernutrition.
Panelists and speakers include senior representatives from the Food and Agriculture Organization, the World Health Organization, the Global Panel on Agriculture and Food Systems for Nutrition (GLOPAN), the Scaling Up Nutrition Movement (SUN), the Non-Communicable Disease Alliance (NCD) and the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN).
Achieving food security for all by 2030 is the central objective of Sustainable Development Goal 2. This includes eradicating all forms of undernutrition which currently affect more than 2 billion individuals according to the SOFI 2019, with more than 14 million children struggling to overcome the challenges of stunting. It also means combating obesity, which affects an estimated one of every eight adults in the world.
