3. Achieving Better Nutrition for Better Life requires transformative approaches across our agrifood systems, and FAO's mandate emphasizes innovative solutions to address global nutrition challenges, while ensuring food security for all.
4. Better Nutrition is one of the Four Betters, together with Better Production, a Better Environment and a Better Life, which are the overarching principles guiding the FAO Strategic Framework 2022-31, in line with our mandate.
5. One of the fundamental goals set out in the Preamble to the FAO Constitution is “raising levels of nutrition”.
6. As we celebrate FAO’s 80th Anniversary this year, we are called to remember the fundamental principles, which underline our noble mandate.
7. To fulfil our goal, we must adopt a system’s approach to Better Nutrition where all relevant partners across the agrifood systems work together, and no one is left behind.
8. Modern agri-tech innovations like precision farming and climate-resilient crops are revolutionizing food production, enabling us to grow more nutritious foods with fewer resources.
9. Digital tools provide farmers with critical data-driven insights to improve yields and nutritional quality.
10. At the same time, sustainable practices - from reducing food waste to promoting biodiversity - help create more efficient and environmentally friendly agrifood systems.
11. These technological advancements must be paired with grassroot efforts to promote balanced diets and nutritional education.
12. By combining innovation with equitable access, we can bridge nutritional gaps and combat hunger in all communities.
13. The transformation of agrifood systems to be more efficient, more inclusive, more resilient and more sustainable is critical to achieving better nutrition and presents an unprecedented opportunity to nourish both people and the planet.
14. Ladies and Gentlemen,
15. As we celebrate World Nutrition Day, we reaffirm our commitment to building resilient agrifood systems that deliver diverse, healthy foods to every table.
16. Through continued innovation, education and global cooperation, we can realize the vision of a world where no one goes hungry, and everyone benefits from the life-changing power of good nutrition.
17. Making healthy diets available, accessible and affordable for all – especially to the 2.8 billion for whom they are currently unaffordable – is critical for all our shared prosperity.
18. Better Nutrition can catalyze progress to achieve food security for all.
19. Healthy diets help children grow and develop to achieve their full potential.
