Background Information
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in cooperation with the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, supports young people and women in Düzce through training and projects that strengthen beekeeping, improve production and marketing, and foster entrepreneurship. These initiatives enable participants to build sustainable livelihoods while preserving the region’s agricultural heritage.
In Düzce, where more than 32 percent of youth face unemployment and many migrate to cities, beekeeping offers an alternative path. With 60 percent of the province covered by forests, 60,000 hives, and the resilient Yığılca bee, the area holds strong potential. By combining these natural advantages with targeted training and support, FAO helps new generations create opportunities and maintain beekeeping as a cornerstone of rural development.
