Imagine standing in a field where smart sensors tell farmers exactly when to water their crops.
Or watching a young entrepreneur use drones to detect plant diseases before they spread.
Or tasting food grown in a vertical farm powered entirely by solar energy.
This is not the future — it’s today’s reality.
These are real, tangible examples of how innovation is transforming our agrifood systems — from Seeds to Foods.
From a single seed – or seedling, fingerling, breeding stock or genetic material – comes the foods that sustains us all.
But this process does not happen by chance.
It takes knowledge. It takes innovation.
And above all, it takes people: farmers, fishers, herders, scientists, youth women - and bold innovators everywhere.
For 80 years, FAO has worked side by side with countries and their farmers, especially smallholders, to build better agrifood systems – agrifood systems that have fed and nourished a global population that has more than tripled.
Next month, from 10 to 13 October, as part of FAO’s 80-year anniversary celebrations, we will host the first-ever FAO Global Exhibition: From Seeds to Foods in the heart of Rome.
The exhibition will bring together FAO Members and hundreds of exhibitors from around the world to showcase innovation, cutting-edge technologies, and a rich diversity of agricultural products – across crops, livestock, fisheries and forestry.
United under our shared vision of the Four Betters: Better Production, Better Nutrition, a Better Environment, and a Better Life — leaving no one behind.
This is more than an exhibition – it is a global platform to celebrate agricultural heritage and culinary traditions, highlight innovations and technologies, and take visitors on a journey from seeds to foods.
Wherever you are, engage with us, join the conversation, and help shape the future of our agrifood systems.
See you in Rome!
