With design and implementation support from FAO, and financing from the World Bank, women producers are supported to rear Croiler chicks – a hardy, fast-growing mixed breed suited to backyard conditions – first at home and later in collectively managed units for egg production. The initiative provides low-cost, good-quality chicks and infrastructure, helping women generate regular income by selling eggs through JOHAR-supported markets at fairer prices.
