Background Information Supported by the Jharkhand Opportunities for Harnessing Rural Growth (JOHAR) programme – implemented by the Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society (JSLPS), with support from FAO and financing from the World Bank – the hatchery supplies high-quality chicks of hardy breeds like Sonali and Croiler to women’s producer groups across the state. With JOHAR’s backing, Divyansh scaled up from delivering 10 000 to 100 000 chicks weekly, helping meet the growing demand for nutritious, fast-growing poultry. The hatchery’s success reflects JOHAR’s broader effort to support the backyard poultry sector become more resilient – boosting production, reducing mortality rates, and ensuring smallholder farmers have reliable access to chicks, training, inputs and markets
