Background Information
Ecological farm. Cultivations in Jable.
The Jable crosses the island from Caleta de Famara to Playa Honda. It is a corridor of strong winds that carry fine marine sand and deposit it over the land.
Traditionally, agriculture in El Jable has been rain-fed, relying on natural moisture retention. While some farmers now use supplemental irrigation, the system retains its ancestral structure and functions, rooted in sustainability and adaptation to arid conditions.
It is one of the oldest agro-systems on the island, practiced by the Majos (the island’s original inhabitants).
