Dear Colleagues,
I wish to thank all members for your continued leadership,
And welcome the new members of the Group.
AMR is a threat to global agrifood systems, and the challenge is to produce enough safe, nutritious foods to feed an increasing population.
At the FAO Ministerial Conference in July this year, Members recognise the need to align our work with the 2024 UN General Assembly Political Declaration on AMR.
To achieve this, we started to focus on two areas:
First: RENOFARM – aimed at reducing the need for antimicrobials on farms for sustainable agrifood systems.
And Second: InFARM – the International FAO Antimicrobial Resistance Monitoring System – supporting countries to collect, analyze, and share reliable AMR data on animals, food, and plants.
We count on your cooperation
and commitment to sustain momentum, to bridge science and policy, and to inspire concrete action.
To be Better Together.
FAO recently hosted
a Livestock Week during which we held the Second Global Conference on Sustainable Livestock Transformation, and the Global Forum for Animal Feed and Feed Regulators, as well as the Sustainable Livestock Private Sector CEO Summit - to reaffirm our shared goal.
Next year, we will host the Global Conference on One Health in Agrifood Systems — to showcase actionable, practical solutions that connect animal, plant, soil, and environmental health to safe and nutritious food.
Dear Colleagues,
Together, we can build agrifood systems that deliver on the Four Betters: Better Production,
Better Nutrition,
a Better Environment and a Better Life – leaving no one behind.
I wish you a successful meeting.
Thank you.
