6-8 March 2009, Chile: Official visit of the Director-General. The main purpose of the visit of the Director-General was to award Ceres Medal to President Michelle Bachelet; request her support for the World Food Summit to be held in Rome in November 2009 to strengthen international food security governance, and review main areas of collaboration with Chile. The President offered her full support in all areas of the FAO mandate. The Director-General paid a visit to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and hold a working meeting with the Minister of Agriculture. The Minister emphasized the role of FAO and highlighted areas of common interest: climate change (risk management, sustainable animal production), food safety; institutional development, agricultural statistics. The Director-General witnessed the signature of a TCP project on territorial development in two of the poorest communities in the country. 
The Director-General gave two interviews. He also met representatives of the private and peasant organizations and did a field visit to the flourishing fruit sector.
