Horn of Africa Crisis
23 August 2011, Mutwaathi - FAO is assisting vulnerable farmers in drought-prone eastern Kenya to terrace their fields and build water harvesting structures through a voucher-for-work project. Terracing the lands will help to reduce soil erosion and run-off, thereby improving farmers' chances of higher yields. FAO is working to improve communities' resilience to drought by improving soil and water management methods and encouraging farmers to grow more drought-resistant crops and fruit trees.
