23 August 2011, Mutwaathi - A boy collects water. Consecutive years of uneven rainfall in these parts of eastern Kenya have affected harvests and dried up many water points. Fetching water can take up to five or six hours each day. Through a voucher-for-work project, FAO is assisting vulnerable farmers in eastern Kenya to terrace their lands and build water harvesting structures in nearby riverbeds, thereby shortening the distances to collect water.
