11 June 2011, Widou - Colonel Sarre of the Great Green Wall Project (Grande Muraille Verte) explaining to a visiting participant of the Africa Drylands Week conference a multi-purpose garden seen in the background. The garden, established in December of 2010, was formed by and for a women's group with 331 active members. The garden covers an area of 7 hectares and is irrigated by a drip irrigation system and yields produce all year round. The first year yielded enough produce to earn USD 2640.
