Desert Locusts cause severe crop damage in Mauritania
28 July 2004, Kaedi - A locust survey officer consulting with local shepherds. Shepherds are hit hard in the region as they often own neither land nor livestock, but make their living by herding other people's goats and sheep. With local grazing land denuded by locusts the herd owner may use a portion of the shepherd's salary to buy feed for the animals.
