COOK ISLANDS 2022. Rarotonga
13 August 2014, Rarotonga, Cook Islands - Imported tomatoes. Tomatoes are imported to the Cook Islands despite the fact they are grown easily by local farmers. The problem is a consistency of supply to the ready tourist market. The problems of consistency of supply are partly responsible for the fact the Cook Islands are 82% food import dependent. FAO's fruit tree project aims to help local farmers address the problems of consistency of supply as well as promote improved nutrition.
