01 May 2012, Selewani, Swaziland - A crop of sunhemp growing on a plot. Sunhemp is part of conservation and sustainable agriculture and is usually grown during the fallow season as a rotation crop to suppress weed growth and as a nitrogen fixer, improving soil properties for the main crops when planting season returns. In addition, the leaves can be used as fodder for poultry feed.
FAO Project: GCP/SWA/016/EC - Swaziland Agricultural Development Project (SADP). Overall increased equitable economic national growth and development. Specific objective: Improved smallholder production, and marketing systems which lead to sustainable food security and an improved quality of life for rural households.
