23 November 2010, Nairobi - A laboratory technician working at the Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI) where a vaccine for Rinderpest, a disease aflicting cloven-hooved domestic and wild animals, was developed by researchers. Rinderpest, a disease afflicting mainly cloven-hooved animals, is only the second disease to be successfully wiped out globally, after smallpox, through human efforts. It is seen as a significant step in the fight against poverty and hunger, especially in communities that depend on agriculture and livestock for their livelihoods.
