OSRO/SYR/710/USA: Emergency Food Security and Livelihood Support to Vulnerable Communities in Syria
17 October 2018, Damascus, Syria - FAO and the Syrian Veterinary Medical Association launched the animal treatment campaign to the local community by explaining the objectives of the campaign, the importance to treat animals against diseases and types of diseases. FAO is assisting 28,500 livestock herders, giving attention to women headed-households, who have no access to veterinary services, through FAO animal treatment campaign in six governorates (Rural Damascus, Quneitra, Dar'a, Aleppo, Hassakeh and Raqqa). The campaign will improve the livestock's production and health situation, it will increase fertility rates and decrease livestock mortality rates due to parasites. Hence, the vulnerable herders will be secured with sustainable sources of food and additional income through the production of good quality of milk, meat and wool.
