ITALY 1975. FIRST SESSION OF WORLD FOOD COUNCIL
23 June 1975, Rome, Italy - Dr. John A. Hannah (left), Executive Director of the World Food Council (WFC) during the opening state of the session. On his right, Edward Omotoso, WFC Secretary.
Lead caption:
The first session of the newly formed United Nations World Food Council was held here, today, at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. The Council, nominated by the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and elected by the UN General Assembly, consists of 36 member nations. It was designed to coordinate all efforts to meet the world's increasing food needs and to mobilize the political will manifested by the Governments at last November's World Food Conference in Rome. Dr. John A. Hannah, a Deputy Secretary-General of the Rome Conference and former Administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development, was appointed early in the year as the WFC's first Executive Director.
