The Coast Guard Headquarters for Lazio in Civitavecchia monitors all fishing activities along the coast of Lazio, and carries out regular inspections to ensure that fishing vessels are properly licensed, that the equipment on board meets all regulations, and that the fish is properly labeled and identified when they are landed. From their control center, Coast Guard officers monitor all fishing vessels and investigate instances of illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, in accordance with Italian laws and EU regulations.
