PHILIPPINES 1960. FAO Projects
The Philippines, 1960 - An Experimental Station has been set up in Guinobatan (Albay), eastern Philippines, the heart of the disease-infested area. Extensive research is being conducted by the staff of the Station with a view to eliminating the costly disease. Here, a plant pathologist from the Station carefully examines leaves from a tree destroyed by Ӌadang-kadang".
The Philippine coconut industry is one of the country's most important sources of income. With the assistance of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Government is fighting a vigorous battle against Ӌadang-kadang", a disease that has already killed some 10 million trees.
