ETHIOPIA 1953. Anti-rinderpest vaccination
Ethiopia, March 1953 - This photograph shows a group of Ethiopian veterinary assistants of the laboratory of the Ministry of Agriculture, engaged in removing the spleen from a goat that has been deliberately infected with rinderpest. The spleen will now be used in the preparation of vaccine. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has sent a mission to Ethiopia to help modernize the country's agriculture and forestry. Working there are experts in crop production, animal production, animal diseases' control, rural welfare, forest development and nutrition. This mission includes a team of FAO veterinarians.
