GREECE 1964. Taygetos mountain
Greece, September 1964. The Taygetos mountain range near Sparta. Artemisia sawmill (pine and fir). Regional development is one of the key components of the Greek national plan. The Western Peloponnese Development Project, resulting from an agreement signed between the Greek government and UNSF and for which FAO was designated as the implementing agency, was attached to the Peloponnese Development Service based in Patras under the authority of the Ministry of Coordination.
From April 1, 1962, to October 1, 1964, FAO experts, supported by their Greek counterparts, studied the region's economic potential as well as the most profitable future investments for its development. Moreover, the FAO-Special Fund Western Peloponnese Project is part of the general Mediterranean Basin Development Plan initiated by FAO in 1961.
